I've been waiting for this place to open! So excited that we have such a unique styled bakery in the heart of Historic Uptown Whittier. A few fun facts about this place: they serve all natural (no preservatives, minimal sugar, no lard) Mexican pastries and cakes that are baked in house fresh everyday! Their coffee is organic single-origin Oaxacan dark roast coffee from Mexico, a full bodied coffee that they also serve cold brewed as Cafe de Olla (which was fantastic by the way, and I don't drink too much coffee) And finally, my favorite thing: ALL proceeds from the sales of their California Milkweed Seeds is donated to their partners at Ecolife Conservation to support the Monarch Butterfly program in Michocan, Mexico.
Let's get down to the real business though.. You want to know how the food was, don't you? Of course!
For starters, I got there and ordered a chilled Chai Tea latte and a mini concha. Then I sat down with a woman named Natalie that does outreach for them that had reached out to me prior to their opening to chat for a bit. She then brought me a FEAST of food, drinks and pastries. My hands down favorite was the Keish, Cafe de Olla, Cinnamon Roll, Hibiscus Tea and Horchata Cake.
Please do yourself a favor and go grab some sweets to go! Take them to work in the mornings, or home at night for a little treat after dinner. Perfect for any occasion! I will definitely be coming back thanks to the service and friendly staff and the food that speaks for itself.
Thank you, La Monarca for a great experience!
