I'm just going to jump right into this one and say how incredibly excited I am to have a great little place like The Commoner here in Whittier. Aside from their superb tapas choices, the owners, Steve and Kevin are so sweet and down to earth. I can't express how happy it makes me to know that there are young business owners doing things and making it happen. It gives us all hope that anything is possible if you just follow your dreams and passion. With that being said, I wanted to share a few of the things I was able to try at The Commoner.
This salad had an AH-MAY-ZING avocad-cilantro dressing that just did it for me. It was a game changer for the wedges; It was refreshing! I even drank an IPA with it and the reason I feel it paired so well was because of the cojita cheese. The combination was really good.
I promise you I'm not exaggerating when I say this was in my top 5 for best ceviche I've ever tried. I know that's a bold statement, but I also know I will be back (at the very least) once a week for this. I fell in love and almost asked for another plate. It's made with swai, mango, radish, cucumbers, and red pickled onions. It even had this awesome kick to it because of the juices/jalapenos it's soaked in. Bravo on this dish you guys!! I recommend this to anyone who likes seafood or ceviche!
Spa Water Saison - Ohana Brewing Co.
Not a Saison fan, but THIS, this was excellent and refreshing. Perfectly paired with my next dish!
Look at how beautiful this is!! I didn't even want to eat it! But the flavors you experience when taking a bite out of this. So amazing. I've never had a tartar before, so I wasn't sure what to expect, but this was beyond my expectations. Like I said before, I paired it with the Saison, it was the ultimate combination!
Dulce De Puerco
By the time I got this dish, my stomach was pretty much already at my 98% capacity and wasn't accepting anymore food. But you know I tried a few pieces, and daaaang was this good. I'm a HUGE pork fan. All pork everything! This dish is so simple, I've never seen anything like it. Chunks of pork belly and blueberry sauce.. YES, THAT'S IT! I'll come back for this!
I hope you guys enjoyed reading about my experience at The Commoner! I also hope you guys check this place out!
